Often the child who has trouble focusing and paying attention in class is mis-diagnosed with ADD/ADHD when they are really suffering from a Central Auditory Processing Disorder.
Our students are high school students ranging from ages 14-21 who have learning disabilities, speech and language impairments as well as Autism.
These students are placed in small classroom settings with support services that help them to succeed in school.
My Project
We are requesting an Auditory Processing Assessment tool in order to better assess the students who are flagged as being "disruptive" or "daydreaming" in class to find out the deeper cause to their inability to perform well in their classes. It is important to have this test due to the misdiagnosis of ADD/ADHD in students.
This is very important because this disorder is often mis-diagnosed with ADD/ADHD and children are being medicated when they do not have to be.
If CAPD is diagnosed in the child, there are many interventions and alterations that can be made during the child's school day that will help them perform to the best of their ability.
