My Students

"Ms. B, can I try again?" I never get tired of hearing this! I work with special needs children who have difficulty with speech and language development.

My students attend a NYC public school and all receive mandated speech-language therapy to help them access the curriculum.

Their communication needs vary greatly. I work on improving their receptive, expressive and social thinking skills as well as speech intelligibilty. Many of my students are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Selective Mutism, Intellectual Disabilities, Social Communication Disorders and Cerebal Palsy.

My Project

My students range in age from Pre-K through 5th grade. They are each unique and have very diverse communication needs.

The ultimate goal of speech therapy is to help my students become successful communicators.

It is critical to help each student reach their potential both in the speech room and in all areas of their life! One way I help my students is by working with them throughout the school building. Often I push in to their classroom and visit them at lunch or recess. Because I am always on the move, it is crucial to be able to have resources at my fingertips. Since our school is 4 stories and does not have an elevator it makes it very difficult to carry all the supplies that I need. A new iPad would make having necessary materials such as social stories and visual supports for articulation, grammar, story telling, available with just a swipe!
