Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is considered a Title I school. Many of the children live in low-income housing and hotels, and some are in shelters. For some, English is their second language and many have experienced traumatic experiences that most of us can hardly comprehend. Every student at our school qualifies for free breakfast and free lunch. All of my students have complex communication needs and some require adapted materials to communicate more functionally.

All children should have the ability to communicate in the easiest way (sign language, gestures, pictures, sentence strips) for them.

These materials will be used to make adapted books, picture choices, classroom labels, etc. They will also provide students with visual cues to help facilitate communication. Cardstock, laminating sheets, velcro dots, and page protectors will aid in making adapted materials. The mouth model will be a great help and visual aid to students working on speech sounds.
