This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My district introduced a new program this year that gave my school an exciting opportunity to become one of the first to welcome this unique program into our community. Our program provides under-credited high school students with the opportunity to earn credits in a way that best fits their needs.

This program provides a very special opportunity for disengaged students by helping them reconnect with a school community.

Through our innovative Project-Based Learning curriculum, students have voice and choice throughout their modules. PBL curriculum not only provides students with the chance to feel proud about their work but also opens the door for social-emotional learning that they can use both inside and outside of the classroom.

Many students in our program have difficulties at home and this program creates a safe space for them to become successful.

Students in our program often feel misunderstood, but with our inclusive community, the same students are now taking pride in their work, their individuality, and their future.

My Project

As a Project Based Learning classroom, students are required to complete a project as their final assessment for each unit. The supplies donated will help support students throughout each unit by providing them with the essential items to complete assignments and build their project.

One project that students will be working on this year is creating a children's book that personifies the year 2020.

This project will allow students to explore the difficult year in a safe space, while practicing their ELA skills.

At the end of the unit, we will have a classroom library filled with real and tangible children's books created by each student. The supplies will not only allow students to implement, and execute their project successfully, but will help them create connections with their peers.

By allowing students to create projects as their assessment grade it provides a unique opportunity for typically disengaged students. The manipulative, individualized, and tangible project gives students purpose and helps re-engage them in school. The supplies provided will help support students complete their projects, graduation course requirements, and recover credits.
