Help me give my students more of an opportunity to work with a teacher at a table with stools that will help with small-group intervention and specialized help!
I teach an energetic class of 32 fifth-graders. Our classroom is full of students aiming for success in every aspect of life. We work hard so that we can play hard. We push to be better each day.
My goal is not only to teach the curriculum, but also to make sure students leave each day feeling as successful as possible.
I push my students to find what makes them happy and to become more than what they thought they could be.
We try to find ways to make each content area feel more attainable for every student that comes in the room. We also try to find ways each day to make every student feel that they are loved and that they belong. Our motto is "Every Person Belongs" and we affirm that each day with the things that go on inside-and outside-our classroom.
My Project
In our current seating situation when we try to work as a small group for intervention there isn't a specific place we can go to work together. We usually end up at a table or desks where students are craning trying to see what we are working on and get the help they need.
Every student deserves the chance to succeed, and with growing class sizes finding the structure to help students is becoming increasingly more difficult.
When I as the teacher am trying to work with students in a small-group setting I want to make sure I can not only answer questions as they come, but also provide additional support to those students who are struggling. This is immensely more difficult with groups than it is with individual students if I don't have a way to get students and they don't have a way to see what I'm doing or writing.
Teaching is my passion. But in order to be an effective teacher, and in order for my students to be effective learners, some students need additional support. I am incredibly hopeful that this new seating arrangement will allow my students more of an opportunity to receive that additional support that they deserve.
