My Students

Have you ever seen a student that was so active, he/she was all over the classroom? These learning tools and activities will help calm these students and help them learn better.

Our urban school is in a high poverty area and serves many low income families and students who are English language learners.

The majority of my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and 85% of them qualify for free/reduced price school lunch. My energetic, diverse class of Kindergarteners represent a plethora of cultures and linguistic backgrounds. My students are: Latino, Arabic, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, African American, Russian, mixed heritages- Korean/Caucasian, Filipino/Cambodian, and Filipino/Latino.

My Project

My super active students will be able to focus better and sit longer with the sensory cushions and fidget toys. Having the bouncy bands at their desk will help them sit longer, while also giving them a resistance band to move their feet. The pencil grips, hand therapy putty, and beads will help them develop the foundational fine motor skills to aid in writing, cutting, pick things up, give them a stronger grasp. The learning phones will help them practice and hone in on their developing speech skills.

The learning tools will help my super active students calm their bodies down, but also give them the movement that they need.

Over time, the students will be able to sit longer and focus more on their learning. These students will learn to strengthen their attention span, fine motor skills, and be a happier student at school.
