Special Things for Special Preschoolers

My students need a new carpet to sit on during instruction along with adaptive seating. Also a light table for exploration and sensory needs.

My Students

The students in my classroom are made up 8 special education children and 4 peers ranging in age from 3 years old to 6 years old. We have a wide range of abilities and disabilities. Our school has a morning session and an afternoon session Monday through Friday. Our school is made up 11 classrooms and most of our students have disabilities but that does not define them or who they are. They have so much to offer and its my job to make sure the world sees their potential and abilities!

My Project

Many of the students in my classroom have sensory needs and need adaptive seating in order to be able to participate like normal 3-6 year olds. Having the option for a rug where they can specifically have a spot with a special cushion, will help them be able to sit on the floor with their peers instead of a chair. Also, since most of my students have Autism, a light table will help them explore their sensory needs. It would improve their fine motor skills, sharing skills, interacting skills and will help them relax as it acts as a calming mechanism.
