My Students
I am a teacher at a Title I school where 90% of my students live in low-income households. Our school was shut down in March of 2020, and since then, the community has worked tirelessly to provide adequate virtual education for all learners. We are finally gearing up as a district to return in-person next month, September 2021! Although students will still be able to receive the free daily meals that they are used to receiving in school, there is still a need for basic supplies this school year due to the unforeseen challenges this year has brought for students and families.
I am so excited to welcome my third graders back to school in person; they deserve nothing less than the best experiences and materials!
Third grade is a year of rigorous yet rewarding work and my students always rise to the challenge! The encouragement, positivity, and collaboration of my students continues to amaze me every day. Despite all the uncertainty of this year and the amount of learning they have missed out on due to the pandemic, they continue to persevere and make learning so meaningful! They deserve to be afforded all of the opportunities in the world.
My Project
Every class has their own personality and preferences. Getting a class engaged in books that fit their interests leads to great engagement, discussion, and learning. My students this year are so inquisitive and unique! This group loves joke books, Captain Underpants novels, and seasonal text selections.
Reading is the most meaningful and deep when students have their preferences taken into consideration!
I want accountable independent reading time to make my students excited to explore the literature in our classroom library.
This project would provide students with many of their favorites; books about winter/Christmas, knock knock joke books, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Captain Underpants novels, and some colorful and engaging literature about ancient civilizations. Thank you in advance for your support!
