it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are eager and enthusiastic learners who are excited to come into their classroom everyday. My hard-working fourth graders learning Math, Science, and Social Studies deserve to be physically comfortable and feel at home in our classroom.
I teach at a public school in New York City where most of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Many of my students are English Language Learners coming from a high-need community. All of my students can and will achieve great academic gains this year, but they could use a little of your help.
My Project
Where is your favorite place to curl up with a cozy book? Is it in a hard metal blue chair? I didn't think so... but that is where my students have to sit. When I teach or when my students are collaborating, I want them to feel comfortable and work to fulfill their greatest potential. These BackJack chairs will help.
In an attempt to make my classroom more inclusive last year, I acquired benches for my students to facilitate communication among all of my students (even those who could not physically sit on the floor). With this added level of comfort, my students were noticeably more engaged during instruction and work time when they chose where they wanted to sit and what they wanted to sit on.
The BackJack chairs I am requesting are ideal for students who prefer back support (instead of sitting up crosslegged) and can be used during whole group instruction, small group instruction, or independent work time. The chairs provide a little extra cushion and a lot of extra comfort!
Students deserve this level of comfort in the classroom they spend 7 hours each day in.
Your donation will not only make a noticeable difference in my students' actual learning, but also in their desire to come to school and learn in our classroom everyday.
Furthermore, this alternative seating will help improve instruction by appealing to all learners and creating a caring and sharing classroom community. Together, we can lead my students to achieving their greatest academic potential.
