My Students
My students come from a rural community in west Homestead. Because a majority of our student population qualify for free or reduced lunch based on low income economic status, we are considered a Title I school. The specific population of students I'll work with this school year fall under the SPED (Special Education) umbrella, but will be included in the general classroom setting. Despite their inability to learn and comprehend material on the same levels as their fellow peers, these students are eager and strive to engage in and explore different avenues of education which will eventually enhance their understanding of school curriculum . This school year, I support a total of 35 students in both the areas of mathematics and reading/language arts. With my weekly support, as well as the integration of more hands on and creative projects, these students will be better equipped to thrive in the general education setting.
My Project
When learning about geometrical properties in 5th grade for example, the machine will be used to cut out and design "geometry gardens." Students will also be able to create objects to use when exploring different units of conversions. As it relates to fractions in 3rd grade, the machine will be used for the creation of tools such as fraction bars. 4th graders will be able to design cool and creative writing projects, as writing is a vital part of the 4th grade ELA curriculum. It is my personal goal to keep the students engaged in a super fun, hands-on way.
