Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are 9th through 12th graders with various disabilities that come to school every day motivated to learn the value of teamwork and competition through their Special Olympics games! Students have already competed in, and won, at several Fall competitions, including floor hockey and basketball. We need help providing athletes with snacks and table coverings, paper plates, cups, forks, paper bags, and other celebration supplies for their upcoming Winter games. It will reward their efforts and give them the motivation and nutritional energy needed to compete to the best of their abilities. My team consists of previous Illinois Special Olympics gold medal winners across various sports including relay races, long jump, and soccer skills, bringing home 8 gold medals in the Summer of 2024.

To bring home the gold, students will utilize the celebrations, crafts, and snacks to gain the fuel needed to get them through various rounds of competitions!

Students will also use the snacks to feed both their physical and emotional needs, which many come to school to receive. Through this donation of beads, clay, and other crafts, my students will be able to overcome daily obstacles and concentrate on completing physical activities that are great developmental opportunities for their socio-emotional progress.
