Help me give my students the social, life-skills and health benefits of Special Olympic events. These events are free to enter, however, we must pay for transportation and drivers.

I teach a class of self-contained students with various disabilities. They range in severity and it is both a challenge and a privilege to teach them.
The students in a self-contained environment need all the exposure to life skills, real-world activities and social activities we can provide.
My students work hard at learning basic skills that the rest of us assume everyone knows. I have watched some finally learn their addresses and have seen parents cry over this one basic accomplishment.
My students are loving, caring and eager to learn and participate. They want to be accepted and loved like all the rest of us. They just need a little extra help to get there.
My students are special needs students that have few opportunities to play as a team, get recognition or socialize with other people from different areas.
Special Olympics gives them the opportunity to be like and feel like everyone else.
They receive medals and recognition just like regular students on regular sports teams. They get to go to tournaments and state meets to further their skills and expand their life experiences. They feel like normal, regular people. They also learn valuable social skills, make friends and develop good health habits that they will follow for all their lives. They are healthier, happier and better adjusted.
The money you donate will go toward the cost of transportation for our events. The events we are asking assistance for are: Canoeing, Volleyball - County Tournament, Monster Mash, State Volleyball Tournament, basketball, bowling, soccer, and the Spring Prom Celebration. We are asking for help with 8 of the 13 events we attend. We have to pay bus drivers for their time as well as mileage and gas. One of the trips (Canoeing) listed requires that we provide a cook-out for our students. We have to buy drinks, hamburgers, and hot dogs as well as all the fixings and snacks. Students are involved in setting up the cook-out, again providing the opportunity to learn another life skill.
