Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with a lot of self-contained classes. In many classes I have students that are non-verbal and function on a toddler level. Several students have a condition called pica. Pica is an eating disorder in which a person eats things not usually considered food.We work hard to ensure that students are being safe and not placing anything in their mouths that is harmful. In order to make this process a little smoother it helps to have sensory toys like fidget bracelets and puzzles to keep students engaged in positive behaviors. An emotions fan can help students identify and recognize different emotions. Spring scissors will help students that have limited fine-motor skills.

Bibs that are easy to wipe down would be nice to have on hand for students that need support during meal times.

A compression vest might also be comforting for students that need the weighted vest to keep calm. It is soothing for students to have this pressure placed when they are feeling overly anxious. It is like a calming hug.
