Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Value and see the humanity in every child," said one of my favorite doctoral professors. These are words that resonate with me every day.
My students are inquisitive, hard-working, and funny.
They are thirsty for knowledge but need support to access the challenging curriculum. At times, they deal with issues in their personal lives that no child should have to endure, but they are resilient. I admire their spirit in being able to face these challenges daily.
My Project
The requested magnifiers are for a student with severe visual impairments. These tools will allow her to see and read materials in all core subjects (language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies) on a daily basis in her classroom. She is a vibrant and positive young lady, who is fiercely optimistic despite her visual and orthopedic challenges. In addition, my students thrive and succeed with organization. The organizer will allow them to keep track of their materials without taking time away from instruction. Students in my classroom need a place to store their materials. Currently, the students do not have their own place to call "home" in my classroom. Last, the magnetic letters will allow my younger and older students to demonstrate their decoding skills by being able to make "big words" in front of their peers.
The materials will directly impact students with special needs.
The materials requested are to organize and enhance the learning environment. Public support from private donations allows those students who struggle the most to have a chance to succeed like their peers.
