Help me give my students KIBO robots to learn to code in a new way.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Bruder's classroom raised $632

My Students
All of the students I teach are special needs children. Their age places them in a middle school setting; however, they all function on a much lower grade level. Almost all of my students live a guarded life at home and at school. Some of my students are classified as intellectually delayed and function well behind their age/grade level; some have emotional disturbances and need extra support in the classroom.
My students need to learn how to have fun just like everyone else does and not be fearful of who is watching them.
This is the first school year that we were able to teach to the students' and not to the state's needs. The students' abilities are more important than providing data to the state. This school year we taught in a less conventional way, to get life skills across to them. We have pet-assisted learning animals in the classroom, a site therapy dog, hygiene skills, and hands-on learning and community-based projects along a program to combat childhood obesity. All skills our students need to learn how to do for themselves.
My Project
In the world today, jobs are requiring more things like creativity, collaboration, and communication skills. As elementary school teachers, we must begin to lay the foundation for these skills with our students. I attended a training in coding and robotics with KIBO this summer. This is where I knew that I had to use KIBO robots with my first graders!
By having KIBO robots, my superheroes can build, program, decorate, and basically bring their own stories to life while building important life skills!
KIBO will help my students have opportunities for open-ended play in a way that is unplugged from "playpen" technology. Help me put this amazing training to good use in my classroom!
