This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In a world where we can learn just about anything using technology, an iPad can open up the world of learning to a child who's preferential learning modality is touch, hearing or visual.
Located in a Hurricane Sandy Disaster area, my self-contained special education class is made up of kindergarten, first and second grade students whose disabilities range from speech impairment to other health impaired.
They enjoy learning on any device they can get their hands on, even my old iPhone or iPod touches. A larger area would be nice for the visual learners.
My Project
My students need an iPad. The kindergarten students will be able to explore apps to improve their basic skills and practice alphabet writing. First and second graders will be able to practice counting, adding and subtracting and writing longer pieces. The class as a whole will be able to manipulate the world of the internet to learn about animals, places and important people.
For special needs students in this area, any access they have to the outside world is a valuable tool.
I want to help my students manipulate their learning by encouraging research and promoting life long learning. Please help bring the world to my class!
