Special Needs Students Lack School Supplies

My Students

My students are low income students, some of whom have an emotional disability or are trauma students. My students are in need of real life mathematical manipulatives such as clocks, money, cash register, budgeting task, etc. They have a desire to work and live independently after high school.

My Project

My classroom is located in rural central Illinois with a fifty percent low-income population. Often times students come to school without the necessary school supplies such as notebooks, paper, pencils, etc, in order for them to be prepared for school.

This project allows students to have the necessary supplies that they need, binders, paper, folders, pencils, pencil sharpener, and clip boards, while at the same time providing them with new items to provide them the with the academic and social emotional support to be successful.

The first day of school sets the tone for the entire school year.

Having the necessary supplies allows students to feel like their peers and take pride in their school year. In the event that students are unable to attend school due to COVID-19 supplies will be delivered to their homes in order to provide them with the necessary items to learn in the home environment.
