This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are autistic, intellectually disabled, speech impaired and/or other health impaired.
They enjoy coming to school every day.
Each one thrives on structure and routine. Their favorite time of day is "Sign-in & Calendar" when they use the Activboard, greet each other, perform calendar tasks, and "show off."
Our school is very supportive and inclusive. My students enjoy participating in activities such as reading buddies, grade level inclusion, and peer to peer mentoring. Wherever we go in school, other students call out "hello" to my students and call them by name. They ARE an important part of our school community.
My Project
All of my students are working toward independence. One of the ways we accomplish this is through work systems. Independent work is an integral part of the Structured TEAACH intervention program for special needs students.
One of our independent stations includes binders that contain individualized work for each student.
All the pages are laminated and include activities such as sorting, matching, labeling, counting, etc. The binders we currently have are being held together with packing tape. The accessories (binder clips, pens, tape, etc) will help staff to organize the binders.
It is my hope that heavy duty binders (that are used daily) will last longer than our current binders.
