Special Needs has Needs

My students need and would benefit greatly from 3 Gaiam Balance Ball Chairs. The chairs would provide a variety of seating options in our classroom.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a span classroom grades 3rd - 5th. My class consist of 16 students 4 girls and 11 boys. After breakfast we begin our day with a calming activity to relax in order to focus on the morning task.

From the moment most of my students enter into the gate in the morning their engines are running (especially my boys),they are on the move, tag, hopscotch, soccer, hide & seek.

Needless to say the movement does not stop when the morning bell rings to enter the classroom. After breakfast I engage my students in some type of calming activity to get the wiggles out in order for them to focus on lesson. Most of my students have sensory needs. They are moving constantly throughout the day. They are either tapping their feet, wiggling in their chair, rocking back and forth, sitting with one leg in the chair, or standing periodically.

My Project

This project will make a difference because it would allow my students options and flexibility in seating. It would allow them to sit in class in a non traditional way. Some students can stay still while learning while others students need exercise to help them know where their body is in space. Either way, it frees up their brains for learning. The bouncing ball chairs would allow my students to stay actively engaged and focused. The movement of the balance ball chairs will help release energy and keep students focused and on task.

This project will make a difference because it provides effective seating option for kids who have a difficult time focusing or staying put in their seats.
