My Students

I currently work in two special education preschool classrooms (ages 3-5 years), one serving children with autism, and the other serving children with both physical and cognitive disabilities.

Both classrooms currently have seven students, but there is room for 12 students total in each classroom. My students are enthusiastic, sweet, motivated, curious, and love to explore and play! They have moderate to significant delays in sensory motor development including fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing, and self-regulation. We love to play games, sing songs, create art work, and run around on the playground.

My Project

We are requesting school supplies like pre-writing tools, finger paint, stencils, and scissors for doing craft projects to work on fine motor development and building independence in task completion. Fine motor manipulatives such as play-doh, snap toys, games, and puzzles will enable my students to further develop their visual fine motor skills to support their pre-academic readiness. Additionally, we are requesting sensory regulation tools such as compression garments, fidgets, and vibrating toys to help keep the students engaged in classroom activities. These items will be used during individual occupational therapy sessions as well as in the classroom. Through play, children acquire vital motor, sensory processing, self-regulation, problem-solving and social skills. Early development of these abilities provides an important foundation for learning throughout a child’s life. Above all, these supplies will engage my students in play and will make learning fun!

Your contribution will help provide a wider range of multisensory motor experiences for my students that they would otherwise not have access to.

Research has shown that early intervention during these critical years is highly effective in supporting a child's development. Expanding their exposure to sensorimotor experiences will help set them up for success early on. Due to our limited resources, your donation will make a big difference.
