This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a bilingual first-grade teacher. My students are special and unique in many ways. They all come from different backgrounds and have a unique story.

My students are always eager to learn, and the hands-on experience will strengthen and expand their knowledge.

I would like for them to be exposed to and discover the beauty of nature through gardening. They will record their plant's growth and observations in a journal. The goal is for them to be able to explain what plants need to grow. The requested materials will allow each student to share their learning with someone at home. Each student will receive a pot with seeds, that we will plant as a class. They will also decorate and paint their pots. At the end of the project, they will be able to take their plant home and give it to someone special.

Having the appropriate materials for such a project helps deepen their understanding of the concept. I have seen how students engage and are positively affected by projects that they have created, designed, or made. I can already see how proud and excited they will be once their plants start to grow.
