My students are amazing individuals! As first grade special education students they thrive in an environment set up for their abilities and needs. In the 2018-2019 school year my class will consist of 3 students with Autism, 1 with a health impairment, and 11 with Learning Disabilities. When their needs are met, they excel in learning and social settings.
The unique needs of my students and how hard they work every day inspire me to go above and beyond to ensure they are able to learn to the best of their ability by meeting their sensory, environmental, and academic needs.

My Project
This project will provide a visual timer, flexible seating, chair bands, weighted blankets, and a classroom rug. These items are invaluable in providing students a choice where they work best, enable them to sit longer with their peers, and meet sensory needs. Giving students flexible seating for independent work time is important in developing their independence, focus, and ability to regulate sensory stimulation. The bands, wiggle chairs, and weighted blankets help many of them sit longer during big group lessons in the special education and regular education settings with their peers. My students work extra hard to learn. Funding this project will ensure they are learning every day in a comfortable environment suited to their needs and abilities.
