My kids are all from military families! They live on the base or in the surrounding area. My school is the only military school in Berkeley County. Students must be from a military family to attend. My students are very well behaved and excited to learn. They have experienced a lot. They travel extensively either through the military or to visit family they have left behind. My students must learn to make friends and lose friends regularly. They also must deal with a deployed family member. Some students are resilient and others struggle to handle the changes that occur. My school offers a safe, consistent place in their lives. We are their home, even if only for a moment in their lives.
Our students do not qualify for any additional funding for our district.
Federal funds are distributed equally throughout our district, so we do not receive additional money through Federal funds. Our students perform well despite this lack of funding. We are always one of the top performing schools. These students and their families deserve the best!
My Project
I have a unique group of students that I work with on a daily basis. I have students from 4 years old to 12 years old. These students have a range of special disabilities that require extra assistance and extra support to make sure they succeed. Items such as bicycle desks, wobble seats and weighted blankets can help focus these students.
Providing these items can help children focus in class and can possibly change them from failing students to successful students.
Every child is unique and comes with unique challenges and demands, and I am trying to do my part to provide my students with everything they need.
