Help me give my students in special education extra resources for small group instruction in reading and math plus their all-time favorite reinforcer activities- Uno and Jenga! Many thanks from my K-3rd graders in resource room.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom does not have sets of books- we do have tons of individual books, but we cannot use these for small group instruction activities. We enjoy books to apply taught explicit phonic skills to decode literature (both fiction and non-fiction). While students must be exposed to non-fiction, I have purposely chosen fiction books, so that they can experience the joy of reading.
My resource room does not get the same supplies that are passed out to regular education classrooms; it is up to the teacher to locate and supply their classroom from a small yearly budget The books, the math manipulatives and games will help support my students' IEP goals, build self-esteem and enable each one to take the knowledge back into their general education classroom and be successful.
My students are beyond special because they typically learn in different ways and at their own pace. Special education students are often left out of many activities and friendships due to their difficulties learning and demonstrating their knowledge equal to their peers. Please help my students achieve their reading and math goals.
