Special Education Pre-K: Picture Me On Top!- Pt. 2

My students need a class printer and ink in order to create pictures that will be used for visual schedules, vocabulary acquisition and communication.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Kimbrough's classroom raised $189

This project is fully funded

My Students

My Special Needs Pre-K students have significant communication delays that make it challenging to interact with each other and adults around them. They use pictures to communicate when they are unable to use words.

My students are Pre-K/EC and their age ranges from 3-5.

They class is blended with children with different types of special needs (Autism, Developmental Delays, fine and gross motor delays, Speech Delay, and other Disorders). All of the students have some type of language and communication deficits. The students have difficulty understanding language and communicating their wants and needs. We use several augmentative communication devices, sign language to communicate, and picture symbols. The school is a Title 1 school with about 98% of the students are on free and reduced lunch. Most of the parents are single parents, which leaves little money to help with materials needed in the classroom.

My Project

I am requesting a printer and ink. The printer and ink will allow us to capture pictures of the words/objects students are not able to speak. The non-verbal Pre-K children in our class are not able to use their words. We do use other means of communication in our Special Needs Pre-K classroom such as sign language, picture cards, augmentative communication devices, and picture symbols. The printer and ink that we are requesting will help our Pre-K children express their wants and needs. We will be able to print pictures/objects of useful words and print the pictures out. Then, the students can point to the pictures when they cannot say the name of the items. We can also print pictures so the students will be able to follow the class routines with a picture schedule. Help me meet the students needs with the material requested.

The printer and ink will give the Special Needs Pre-K students the chance to communicate through pictures.

These items that we are in need of will provide opportunities for growth and learning. Also the items will have a strong foundation for the students to become more independent and ready for the next level.
