Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Despite so many hardships, my students come in each day eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
I teach special education students, grades kindergarten through third.
Our school is in inner Phoenix. All students in our school receive free breakfast, snack, and lunch. Our students are very sweet and polite. Many of them come from troubled backgrounds, and many students move frequently.
My Project
I teach kindergarten-third grade special education students. My students have many different needs. Many of my students learn by doing. Some of my students struggle with sorting and fine motor skills. These materials will help with both of these deficits.
One of my students is currently using PECS, a communication system.
This behavior keyring will help her in many different ways. Another tool that will help her is a now, next, and later chart. This will show her what she will be doing throughout the day.
Many of my students also need sensory stimulation and breaks from their learning throughout the day. A timer will let them see how much time they have left on an activity and to allow them cool down if they need a break.
File folder games are interactive and will help students be more engaged in their learning.
