I work for the WPSS. My classroom is self-contained catering to students who have severe learning disabilities in reading and in Math. Our classroom is made up of 8 students with very diverse needs. Instruction is individualized to their specific needs. However, resources are very limited. There have been district-wide cut backs, leaving it extremely difficult to acquire the necessary supplies for my Special Education Students. Students are lacking the Math materials/manipulatives they need and deserve to be successful. Your donations would be going to the most amazing group of students!
My special needs students (many whose first language is not English), will make the highest gains if manipulatives are a significant part of the curriculum. For example, the Jumbo Double-Sided Magnetic Money will allow the students the opportunity to get out of their seats and demonstrate what they know in a hands on and visual way. The Ten-Frames Magnetic Answer Boards teach students the foundational concept of 10 with ten-frames! Reinforce counting, 1-to-1 correspondence, base 10, place value, number patterns, operations and more. Students place magnetic counters on boards, then raise boards to show their answers!
Anything that makes learning fun while improving performance is a win for students and teacher!
