This is a special education classroom and students in the program come from all different schools and from all different backgrounds. Students in the classroom may have Autism, emotional or behavioral disorders, and developmental delays. This classroom provides students with the ability to stay in public school with their peers in general education classes for lunch, specials, and other classes depending on the student. The classroom is for students in grades K-2. My classroom is designed for students who perform better in a small structured setting with positive behavioral support embedded into the instruction. Students have increased access to therapeutic intervention with daily social skill instruction, social groups, and individual processing in the moment. Students are learning how to cope with their emotions and keep their bodies safe. The focus for the students in this classroom is on changing behavior while simultaneously addressing academics.
My Project
Our classroom has quickly run out of supplies this year and we are in need of a replenishment! My students need red crayons for their multi-sensory reading groups. The students also need index cards for learning their letters/sight words. Our classroom needs disinfectant wipes to clean up desks and to try and keep our classroom germ free! My students are in need of construction paper for crafts and drawing. They are also in need of timers so they can see how much time they have for a calming break when they are frustrated or for a reward break when they have earned one! Some of the new students are still in need of their own bin to hold their books. All of these items will help us continue to strive to succeed academically.
