Special Education 201

Help me give my students the vision I have for this year. This is my 2nd year as a Special Ed teacher, and my most used item last year was the laminator which my new school doesn't have.

My Students

My school is preparing for our second year. We educate in a historic school building which allows us lots of room, but we don't have many resources as a new school with many new teachers. Our school is dedicated to giving a scholarly and social education to at-risk inner-city scholars.

Dayton is a city of dreamers and inventors.

Those who came previously have shown us we can reach beyond the stars. As the home to Funk music, we march to our own beat. My students find inspiration in the past, but we look to the future and how we can make contributions to our society.

As a special education teacher of Kindergarten, First and Second-grade scholars it is imperative that my scholars have access to multi-sensory learning. This is my second year as a Special Education teacher and I don't want to limit my scholars' learning by what I am able to afford on my own.

My Project

In my second year as a Special Education teacher, I know what I want to do with my children and have a vision for the year. For the 2019-2020 school year I know what I need to provide the best learning environment for the students.

My most used item last year was our school's laminator!

My new school does not have one and I laminate everything for my students. I find that many things go in mouths or get crinkled in hands, so for lasting ability I laminate.

I find that second to laminating everything the second most important thing is to be organized. Everything in its place and every place has its thing. Folders on folders! It helps track data, progress and monitoring IEPs.

Building and thinking outside the box is another important fact I learned in SpEd 101. Can the children touch it, see it, feel it? Being able to post important data helps those visual learners. Timers help children know how much longer they have. Velco allows students to move items around and use their sense of touch to aide their learning.

These are all items that I consider essential to me and my students’ success this year!
