This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I run a special education classroom for students with mild to moderate disabilities. My students enjoy learning and our school environment - it’s a safe haven for many of them. I’m trying to make our classroom a little more comfortable and conducive to their many needs. My kiddos aren’t special just because of their disabilities- they’re just amazing little humans that I love working with. As much as I teach them, they teach me something every day.

My students are so wonderful - they may not approach learning in the same manner the general education students do, but they are inventive, creative individuals who are eager to learn.

I teach a mild/moderate program for students with disabilities ranging from ADD, ADHD, as well as other disabilities. My class is small, only 17 students, we are a family. I work with them mostly in small groups which allow me to get to know my students.

My Project

A lack of seating options affects how my students learn. Right now, some of my students have difficulty sitting in their seats.

My students need to get their wiggles out yet remain in the classroom.

These seats will help my students stay calm and allow them to focus! I currently only have one wiggle seat and I have 17 students. More wiggle seats will help my students greatly! Many of my students lack the ability to sit still in a chair. These wiggle seats are proven effective with ADHD, Autism, and with students who fidgets. Allowing my students to focus on the curriculum while getting out the extra energy will likely result in higher-level thinking.
