My Students
My students are English Language Learners. They live in a low-income neighborhood. They come from non-English speaking homes. Many are new to the country. They are deeply rooted in their cultural backgrounds. It is a culture shock for many who enter the English school system for the first time.
My students are excited to acquire the English Language.
School is the primary and sometimes only source for them to listen and practice the language. They rely on authentic and meaningful and experiences in school.
My Project
The literature organizer is intended to help students send and receive mail easily and efficiently. Each student will have their own slot. At the end of the day, they will check their mail slots for notes to take home. Instead of taking out instructional time to hand out notes and documents, a special monitor will be selected each month to place these school notes in mail slots. They can also send each other personal notes.
Students will be excited to check their mailboxes for a special delivery.
They will be motivated to write positive notes to each other and feel pride receiving notes. This is a way to encourage students to show kindness and compassion to their fellow classmates.
