Our students are taught to be independent and to initiate requests through appropriate methods. They are taught the power of language. The class consists of two three hour sessions with special needs students who have a range in disabilities.
Our students are preschool aged and have a variety of special needs.
Our students have moderate to severe disabilities and mild to moderate disabilities. We teach two sessions each day for three hours a session. We work on speech and language goals, behavior goals, functional play, and social skills goals. Some of the disabilities that we work with are speech/language impairments, autism, and intellectual disabilities. We use many visual aids to support students with their language.
My Project
This type of intervention requires manipulatives and thematic toys to assist in supplementing instruction. Our thematic unit calendar includes : Ocean/Water, Farm, Me, Transportation, Wild animals/Insects, Household and Multicultural. The requested toys, puzzles and play materials will assist students in comprehending thematic concepts being taught and give them tangible materials that they can work with.
Donations to this project will improve the level of instruction in our classroom and give students the rich curriculum that they need.
It will provide better early intervention, making the learning process fun, exciting, and interesting. The learning environment in a self-contained special education can be challenging and difficult. Having the materials to support our thematic instructional units will enrich the curriculum and we need these start-up materials.
