Special Artists Need Special Supplies

My students need an assortment of art supplies to enhance their experiences and accommodate their needs in the art room.

My Students

I want my special needs students to have equal access to art supplies in my classroom.

My special needs students are always eager to work with new art materials.

Although many are unable to verbally communicate with me, I can see their excitement about creating in their eyes and facial expressions. I teach art to 3 classes of special needs students in a Title 1 public elementary school. My school has a very high poverty level. Arts experiences for students are limited to school. Many of the supplies in my classroom are not accessible to my special needs artists, so I have made it my mission to increase the amount of adaptive art supplies in my classroom.

My Project

I am requesting a variety of art materials solely for use by my special artists. These supplies will enhance their experience in the art room and focus on fine motor skills. Tracing paper will be used to work on fine motor skills--holding a pencil and tracing lines. Pipettes and adaptive brushes will help students create a variety of paintings through dropping paint and brushing. Clear adhesive sheets are used for collage projects, allowing students to stick objects without glue. Chenille stems and beads will be used to create 3D art.

Your donations to my project will give my special artists opportunities to improve their fine motor skills and create artwork similar to that of my other students.

This is my second year of working with these students and they hold a very special place in my heart. I know my special artists can do great things if they have the proper tools and supplies to use.
