As a speech-language pathologist, I teach an incredible group of students with autism who are working hard to develop their communication skills. Many of them are learning to speak for the first time. In addition, they are working to identify sounds that build words, which is a critical step in building literacy and connection. To support their growth, I'm seeking donations to purchase specialized educational materials and hand-on phonics activities that are tailored to their unique learning needs. Whether it be through puzzles, water play or visual sound cards, students who are visually oriented can achieve academic success.
The ability to communicate effectively is possibly the most essential life skill and learning to read can be a valuable tool for understanding the outside world.
Each sound learned is a step closer to confidence, independence and triumph.
Every child deserves a learning space that meets them where they are. Flexible seating, such as the the Flex-Space Comfy Floor Seats, provides the tactile input that helps to regulate sensory, emotional and cognitive needs. For students working on speaking and phonemic awareness, sitting on the floor, in a calm, home-like atmosphere can be much less intimidating than sitting at a desk or table. Help me foster connection, shared attention and a natural space for language to emerge.
A small act of generosity can make a world of difference. Your support, no matter the amount, can help a child find their voice and feel heard.
