Speaking Through Art: Supporting English Language Learners With Creative Tools

Help me give my students the art supplies they need to strengthen their English skills through creativity, visual thinking, and meaningful self-expression.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Plunkett's classroom raised $628

My Project

In our classroom, language is not the only way we communicate—art is another powerful voice. For my English Language Learners (ELLs), having access to quality art supplies such as paper, pencils, erasers, crayons, markers, paint, and brushes means more than just creating beautiful pictures. These tools become essential bridges to understanding and expression.

Many of my students are still developing their English skills, and art provides a meaningful, low-pressure way for them to engage with language.

With your support, I hope to provide a variety of art supplies that allow students to visualize vocabulary, tell stories, express their ideas, and collaborate on interactive projects that build both confidence and language proficiency.

Why This Project Matters:

Visualizing Vocabulary: Drawing helps students connect new words with images, reinforcing meaning and memory.

Creating Storyboards: Visual narratives support reading comprehension and sequencing skills.

Expressing Ideas: Art offers a non-verbal outlet for students to share thoughts and emotions when words are still forming.

Interactive Projects: Group art activities promote conversation, teamwork, and social interaction.

Cultural Connections: Through art, students can explore different cultures and histories, deepening both their academic and personal understanding.

With these materials, art becomes a language that all students can speak—especially those still learning English. Your donation will help my students find their voices, build their confidence, and grow as both artists and language learners.

Thank you for supporting creativity, communication, and inclusion in our classroom. We look forward to a colorful and expressive journey ahead!
