They use the laminated signs that are there as reminders of steps they can take to help themselves feel calm again. We have the ABC's of motivating words hung around the room as reminders of what makes us feel good inside and the kids LOVE the rainbows all over the room. By laminating these inspirational words and signs, my students have reminders that cannot be torn down or destroyed. \r\nI love the way my room welcomes each and every student and adult who walks inside our doorway. Everyone who enters our space comments on how the calming colors make them feel so happy and relaxed. Students flock to the memory foam bean bag chairs to take time to do their deep breathing techniques and access another calming strategy. Students chose new English words they've been learning and created illustrations to show their meaning—turning words into vivid works of art. As they shared their drawings with one another, they practiced using their new words in sentences, building both confidence and community.\r\n\r\nMy students use these drawing tools to plan stories, complete fun projects, and decorate classroom displays. These projects have helped them connect language and emotion in meaningful ways, giving every child a voice—no matter where they are in their English learning journey.\r\n\r\nI look forward to creating \"story quilts,\" where each student will illustrate a personal memory or tradition. This saves time from having them ask me to look up an animal on my phone or Smartboard and allows for multiple students to access the materials at the same time.
