This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our Environmental Science Club is committed to stopping pollution in its tracks by preventing it. This year, the students have sacrificed their lunches to participate in trash clean-ups to ensure the areas frequented by students near our campus are clean. Living inland from the beach, their goal is to prevent pollution from reaching the ocean through runoff, by stopping it at the source.
Currently the Environmental Science Club students are working on a school-wide campaign to bring awareness to the issue of pollution and how it effects our waterways.
This will include creating shirts to wear during the campaign and to distribute to their peers to get them involved in our volunteer work.
They have developed an announcement, a video, and posters which will be distributed campus wide to encourage students to properly dispose of their trash, both on and off campus. We are looking to bring more awareness by creating t-shirts for the Environmental Science students to wear during this campaign. Our goal is to continue the lunch trash cleanups and offer shirts as incentives to get more students involved in the trash clean-ups, bettering our community.
