Speaking of Copies..

My students need a printer/copier for the speech classrooms in order for the speech therapists to provide them with all the resources they need to succeed.

My Students

As a speech therapist working with students in grades k-8, I see children through just about every stage of adolescence! In just one day, I can go from a group of 5th graders who are excited about writing pen pal letters, to a kindergartener who loves to learn language through play. Some of my students' excitement for learning is contagious, and this fuels me throughout each day. The amount of variety I see also goes for their home lives: some of the students live in shelters, or come from broken homes. Both of these factors encourage me to come to work every day and improve my students' lives in as many ways as possible.

My Project

I am requesting a printer/copier for the speech pathologists at my school to use. Unfortunately, our school's budget does not allow for a convenient printer or copier that is consistently available to staff. The students themselves do not have all the materials they require in order to learn within every aspect of the school environment, and I have been told that the students do not each have a computer accessible to them. Given this information, the school is unable to provide a convenient printer or copier for teachers to use for their classes.

This printer/copier will allow my planning time to be used more efficiently, ultimately creating more exciting and individualized activities for my students.

Instead of spending valuable time during the school day searching for an available printer or copier, I will be able to spend this time creating relevant materials or collaborating with teachers. Given the limited amount of preparation time I have daily, I need to use my time as efficiently as possible and this printer/copier would help greatly.

I would also be able to provide each of my students their own copies of resources that, at this point, they can only use in our sessions. For example, it would be beneficial for them to use my graphic organizers in their classes independently, but without the extra copies available they cannot do so. In addition, many of my students require differentiated instruction. This means that in order to best serve my students, I would provide them with variations of the same material, at each student's individual levels. With a printer, I would be able to provide this for students easily, making it easier for them to learn the material at their own levels.
