Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students give 110% to everything they do. They work hard to set personal goals for themselves to increase their English proficiency. Meeting their personal goals to improve in listening, speaking, reading, and writing the English language can only be achieved when they have the resources needed to do so.
At this time, local, state, and federal accountability measures for their English language growth continue to rise at the same time that the resources available to help them meet those goals continue to decrease.
My students are eager to continue refining their English language skills so that they can meet their academic goals. They are truly a wonderful group, and I am so fortunate and thankful to work with a group of learners who are excited and ready to learn!
My Project
My elementary students need engaging hands-on materials that are challenging, but accessible as they work on improving their speaking and writing skills. They love centers and playing learning games.
The requested materials for this project will help me differentiate instruction and make learning fun for my students as they practice having academic conversations and writing sentences.
The Accountable Talk Reading Discussion Starters will help students learn how to have academic conversations with sentence frames. The 30 double-sided wooden sticks have discussion starters on one side and response ideas on the other. Students use them to talk about any text, boosting their ability to express opinions, cite text evidence and more as they go. The magnetic sentence strip pockets, the writing center, and the Illustrated Nonfiction Sequence and Write Tiles will enable me to differentiate instruction as students learn to write better sentences and paragraphs.
Please help the students in my class meet their language proficiency goals! With these resources, I will be able to better serve the language needs of my students. Thank you for your consideration of this request for funding.
