Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have come from many different parts of the world including Ecuador, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and the United States. They come with tenacity, creativity, and a wide variety of experiences and gifts. We work hard every day as scholars, artists, critical thinkers, and friends.
At our school, 96% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and 92% of the students are students of color.
The majority of my students are learning English as a second or third language. These students have the capacity to achieve greatness.
My Project
In our room, we love to read. We share books we are reading and discuss books with peers. We read in the mornings, afternoons, and on field trips. That said, it is always a challenge to find books that reflect the students in my class. My students are very accustomed to literature as a window to somewhere else, but we all need mirrors in the literature that we are reading. We also need books that will challenge us to make a difference in the world. These books would provide my students that opportunity.

I want my students to learn the value of being a passionate and compassionate citizen in my classroom. When students are validated in all aspects of who they are, their confidence grows.
When students are confident in themselves they can truly achieve anything. These additions to our classroom library will provide us with some of the materials necessary to engage our students with culturally relevant literature.
