Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Teaching first grade is a time when students are building their foundation in both literacy and math. The students benefit from hands-on materials, visuals, and engaging lessons to help them strengthen their foundation. We work in centers and small groups to assist them with their understanding of the concepts and build their skills in both reading and math. During science, I also have the students work in labs and on experiments to build their knowledge in science. Because of Earth Day, the solar eclipse, and the first-grade science benchmarks, my students are working on activities that relate to the climate and environment. Those science lessons involve labs and experiments that need a lot of materials.
When working with my first graders in small groups, centers, labs, and engaging and interactive lessons, we use a lot of resources, materials, and visuals to enhance their learning.
The resources I chose for this project are useful to assist them with the lessons that I am teaching on climate and the environment. The stools will provide additional seating options so they can make their own learning choices of where to sit during centers. I have learned through the years that giving students choices motivates and engages them more in their learning. Additionally, I am also requesting a document camera to help me display and model the handouts, projects, and books on the screen that will be needed for the science lessons and the upcoming activities that involve the climate and environment. My students will be collaborating and sharing ideas in groups on ways we can help better the climate and protect our environment. We need extra materials for these projects and looking forward to SPEAK and share with others our learning.
