My Students

I teach two classes of fun 6th-grade students in the Chinese dual immersion program. There are 40 students in all. These children are learning Chinese as a second language. Help me give my students basic supplies to practice writing, reading, and speaking in Chinese.

My Project

One of the challenges of learning Chinese is remembering and recognizing Chinese characters. Learning Chinese writing as a second language is a little like learning to draw.

By combining art and Chinese learning, my students will be able to have a deeper impression of each character they have to learn throughout the school year.

Not only will they be practicing writing old and new characters/words on their individual whiteboard daily, but they will also be able to practice writing Chinese characters with a traditional Chinese calligraphy brush, ink, and paper weekly. This is to ensure they can commit the words into their memory and create muscle memory on their hands and fingers.
