My Students

Did you reluctantly read the mundane required novels in your English class? My students need a high interest novel, Speak, which will challenge them to examine plot elements, theme, and characterization.

My students are freshmen in a small town and attend a high poverty school.

They are energetic and eager to learn when they come to high school. My goals is to cultivate a love for reading, keep their interest, and challenge them to improve their reading and writing skills by providing creative and high-interest lessons.

My Project

I am requesting 80 copies of the contemporary novel, Speak. Once my students grasp the literary elements in Speak, they will be able to apply this knowledge and explore various nonfiction texts, such as the #MeToo movement. By providing my students with Speak novels, you will be giving them the tools they need to conquer literary analysis skills to succeed in their AP Language class, other high school classes, on tests, and in college courses. My goal is to prepare them for college and the work force. Critical thinking skills are a must! Also, Speak is a high interest and easy to read novel that contains themes my students can relate to and understand, especially during their first year of high school.

It will hold their attention, allow them to discover their voice, and discuss serious social issues in a safe environment while navigating their first year of high school!

They will be able to understand it easily and then be able to relate it to nonfiction text.
