This program will help me to improve my language skills in Spanish so that I can do my job and communicate more efficiently and effectively with my parents and students.
A majority of the students I support come from Spanish-speaking countries.
Becoming fluent in this language will give me so many benefits! I will be able to fluently communicate with newcomers or students who come to my school and speak zero English. This will help them feel supported and help them to build a sense of community in a very new and overwhelming environment. More specifically, we are seeing so many young, pre-k students with social-emotional learning deficiencies, and being able to comfort them with words in their native language will be very valuable. When I become fluent, I will be able to speak with families of students, which is so important as we host many events in my school to help families feel welcome and a part of our learning community. Additionally, I will be able to support teachers in parent-teacher conferences as they communicate student progress to the families of the students they teach. Finally, I can host professional development for my colleagues so that they can learn useful words and phrases to communicate with their multilingual learners. Your support will reach SO many students!
