Sparks to Have Students on Fire for Reading

My students need 4 each of 10 books at their reading level, which will spark a love of reading!

My Students

How embarrassing to read 'baby' books! My students are low level readers who see their peers reading graphic novels. I would like to give my students similar books but at their level.

My students are struggling readers, who see their peers reading the 'cool' books and they are want the same thing.

They have not felt the joy of reading before. I want to get them on fire for reading. These students know they are not reading at grade level. Let's give them books which they want to read, so they will read, so they can make growth!

My Project

Graphic novels help students become engaged in reading, and they have really caught on! But what happens when even graphic novels are too hard to read? I would like to buy sets of 'toon books' for my students and sets of books about a beloved character, Mercy Watson. These books are similar in style to other graphic novels, but at a reading level for my students. Better yet they are books my students have requested to read.

My students are at high risk for continuing on the path of being below grade level, and consequently dropping out.

Let's stop that in its tracks by getting students reading and therefore willing to stay in school.
