This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I love seeing and learning from my students every day. My students have such a range of amazing abilities and work so hard on their communication skills in speech therapy with me. My students have learning differences, autism, developmental delays, reading disabilities, apraxia of speech, intellectual disabilities, articulation disorders, and selective mutism, however, these differences do not define them or their hard work. My bilingual and multilingual children represent such wonderfully diverse backgrounds that span the globe and share their family beliefs.
With this project, the selected materials would be used to address a multitude of speech and language goals in a refreshingly new, dynamic, and culturally sensitive manner.
For example, the Story Spark and Cue cards represent activities and children from various backgrounds and be used to assess the student's language skills in a culturally attuned clinical manner. The children will create stories, share their experiences and knowledge on topics presented on the picture cards that are highly engaging. In addition, the manipulative toys such as the Peek A Boo farm and activity book with velcro images will be used as motivational tools for children who benefit from structured reinforcement activities while working on their therapy goals. It is such a gift to work with my students in our Tier 1, high need school, and your donation is greatly appreciated.
