My Students

Do you remember what it was like the first time you built something? Most of my students have no experience with engineering concepts, have never built something with their hands, and have enormous doubts about their technical skills.

My students are a part of an innovative charter school system in California that employs project based learning strategies.

Acceptance to our school is a lottery system by zip code, therefore our school population almost perfectly reflects the county's demographic. As a result, we have a significant population of students with families well under the poverty level. With that said, though, my students are some of the most vibrant kids I have ever met. Even as high school freshman, they are part of an extremely tight-knit community and support each other in everything they do.

My Project

My classroom recently received a donation of electrical testing equipment from a local organization but we don't have the connectors and tools we need to operate and use them! By funding this project, you will allow my students to access this new equipment so they can practice and demonstrate what they just learned about electricity. This understanding will serve as the basis of an upcoming project where students will be designing and building radio controlled boats. My students need wires and connectors to run electricity laboratories.

These students will graduate college in a world where STEM knowledge and expertise may be requisite to employment.

Funding this project gives them practical hands-on experience with STEM topics and helps to get them excited about real world science!
