Sparking an Interest for Robotics With Sphero Bolts!

My Project

Many students come to STEM and automatically associate the class with robots. They are constantly asking about them, when do we get to build and code robots? Sphero Bolts would be a great addition to our STEM classroom as they are versatile for all grades to use. Students love to see robots that are nontraditional to the ones they automatically think of when we discuss what they look like and their functions. These robots are compatible with the school issued Chromebooks students have, which enables them to enjoy the ease and familiarity of using it to program the Sphero.

For many students this is the first time they have the opportunity to program a robot and when they realize the commands they have produced, makes their robot move, they are hooked!

These robots put into perspective how detailed and precise students must be when programming instructions, so the robot does exactly what they would like it to do. Students take the skills they have learned from programming on Scratch and Code.org and are able to make use of them by making the robot move around the classroom. The excitement and joy you see when students get to that 'ah-ha' moment and are successful at programming their robot to move, is remarkable.
