I tell people all the time that I have the best job in the world! I have the pleasure of serving all 485 students in our rural, K-5 Title I school. Many of my students do not have access to a lot of technology. Some of my sweet Kindergarteners having never seen a computer or used a mouse. They are so enthusiastic about learning how to use technology to visit new places and explore new things.
Coding days are some of the most engaging and exciting days in the computer lab.
This past year we introduced coding to our student body. They love being able to solve complex problems and create their own video games. My hope is that some of the students will fall in love with coding and start to believe that they can become computer programmers too.
I am asking for two Sphero BOLT robots for our computer lab. Because of the versatility of BOLT, our younger students can program them with markers while our upper grades students can use block coding and java to program the robots to navigate mazes, complete tasks, or even representing the solar system. These tasks will be designed to support grade-level academic standards, as well as, ISTE Technology Standards.
I want my students to see technology-related jobs, such as programming as being within their reach.
These activities will require them to develop problem-solving skills, teamwork skills, and resiliency. These will help our students be prepared for the 21st Century workplace.
