Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school uses a language arts program that allows students to read novels of their choice which promotes their love of reading and engagement! However, this poses a challenge for teachers because we need to constantly curate our classroom libraries in order to provide students with access to a high volume of books at a variety of reading levels and genres.

Through this project, my goal is to bring diverse books that engage my students and bring them deeper into the wonderful world of reading.

Classroom libraries are integral to successful teaching and learning. Extensive research has shown that students who have immediate and ongoing access to engaging books in their classrooms exhibit higher reading achievement, better comprehension and an increased vocabulary. When students are provided with well-designed classroom libraries, they interact more with books, spend more time reading and exhibit more positive attitudes toward reading!

These books have been selected with the help of my students for our classroom library in order to increase their reading volume and excitement around reading. The goal is to provide a wide range of inclusive topics so that each child can find books that interests them at their independent reading level.

With your support, my students will gain access to engaging novels that help them become lifelong readers!
